Wrinkle injections or Botulinum Toxin is a chemical typically used in facial muscles to treat wrinkles such as lines on the forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet. It has been used for this purpose for over 20 years.

What to expect
Small quantities of Azzalure® are injected into selected facial muscles with a very small fine needle. This relaxes the muscles, thereby smoothing out of the skin and it minimises creases, lines and wrinkles. If used regularly botulinum toxin can lead to fewer wrinkles forming over time, thus keeping a youthful look for longer even after the use of this treatment has ceased. When used in other areas of the body (e.g. the armpit) the same treatment is used to resolve excessive sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis). Small amounts of Azzalure® are injected to stop the glands from producing sweat.
After Care
We review our aesthetics clients after 3 weeks to ensure they are completely happy with the results. The treatment usually takes around 2-3 weeks to have its maximal effect and lasts approximately 3-4 months in facial muscles but much longer in sweat glands.
We recommend not applying excessive heat to the area treated and not rubbing the area too much as this may dilute the effect of the treatment. If there are any small adjustments a client wants this can be done at the review appointment and these are usually undertaken without further charge.

Am I eligible for this treatment?
These injections can be used on most people, with the most popular uses being for the reduction in forehead lines and crows’ feet. A medical history is taken prior to treatment and we will check that it is safe for you to proceed.
Patient who have nerve problems or muscle problems should let us know prior to treatment so we can advise. Treatment is not undertaken for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
How safe is Botulinum Toxin?
In high concentrations botulinum toxin is a potent poison. However, when used in small doses by a trained professional, as it is in aesthetic medicine, has a very high degree of safety and an excellent safety record.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects of this treatment are rare. Occasionally a temporary drooping of the eyelid can occur. This may last a few weeks, but will always resolve and we take all possible precautions to reduce the risk of this. Special eye drops can be prescribed during this time to help lift the lid back into the normal position in the rare case that this happens. In extremely rare cases patients have developed an allergy to the treatment, while others have shown resistance, i.e. it causes little or no effect on the treated muscles.
