Cosmetic procedures can help enhance, refine and improve skin both aesthetically and medically. Amongst men, they’re rapidly growing in popularity, with anti-wrinkle injections, chemical peels and fillers among the top 5 non-invasive treatments*. It’s no surprise that more and more men are taking care of their skin and seeing the benefits of improved form, tone and texture.

From sculpting the jaw and forehead to defining the nose and improving the appearance of the skin, there are lots of aesthetic treatments available to help build your confidence and enhance your unique masculinity.

Wrinkles

Botox®

The most popular male aesthetic treatment, wrinkle injections work by ‘blocking’ or ‘weakening’ signals between the targeted area and the brain. They can be used for both cosmetic and medical applications.

Treatments available

  • Lines & Wrinkles – the main use for wrinkle injections, the effect ‘relaxes’ the expressive muscles that cause these signs of ageing, helping create a smoother appearance.
  • Hyperhidrosis – also known as excessive sweating, injections can be carried out almost anywhere on the body and prevent the glands from overproducing sweat.
  • Headaches – the treatment can relieve symptoms of tension headaches caused by teeth grinding (bruxism), as well as migraines and neck pain.

FAQs

FAQ

Does the procedure hurt?

By using a fine needle for injections, pain and discomfort is kept to a minimum during your treatment.

What can I expect from my treatment?

Our aim is to create a natural-looking, masculine result with subtle improvements and without the tell-tale ‘frozen’ or ‘overworked’ appearance commonly associated with anti-wrinkle treatments. Results last between 3-4 months and should appear within 2 weeks of treatment.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is minimal, though you may experience some redness or swelling around the treated area(s). This can be eased with a cold compress.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers

Also among the top 5, this minimally-invasive procedure involves injecting hydrating hyaluronic acid into the skin to lift and shape while restoring lost volume and moisture. At the same time, the skin is prompted to produce collagen and elastin, which help create a younger appearance.

Treatments available

  • Tear troughs – this involves improving the appearance of sunken eyes and a hollow appearance commonly associated with ageing.
  • Non-surgical rhinoplasty – carefully-placed injections along the nose can help create a smoother profile.
  • Jaw, cheeks & chin – treatment corrects sagging of the jowls or chin, and the appearance of a recessive (small) chin.

FAQs

FAQ

Does the treatment hurt?

An anaesthetic is applied before treatment, while there is also a numbing agent contained in the filler itself. For extra comfort, we use a fine needle to administer treatment. Also, we use a cannula for safety and to avoid multiple injections.

What can I expect from my treatment?

Results typically last between 6-9 months and should appear immediately, though they will get even better over time. Fillers are primarily used to define and give structure to the face in a subtle way.

Is there any downtime?

As with Botox®, some redness or swelling around the treated area(s) may be present. It is important to avoid applying pressure to the area in the first 1-2 weeks rather than saying avoid touching the area.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Therapy)

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

PRP (Platelet-Rich Therapy) is both a cosmetic and a medical procedure which involves taking a small amount of blood, separating the substance, and injecting it into the targeted area(s). It can be used as an anti-ageing treatment and can also help ease joint pain caused by arthritis or injuries.

Treatments available

  • Skin rejuvenation –  stimulates collagen production and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
  • Hair thickening – targets hair loss and thinning by injecting PRP into the hair follicles of the scalp, triggering growth by increasing the blood supply.
  • Joint pain – injecting into an injured area can help ease inflammation and promote new tissue formation. By injecting with a combination of hyaluronic acid, a lubricating effect is produced.

FAQs

FAQ

Does the treatment hurt?

By using a combination of a fine needle and a numbing cream if needed, pain and discomfort is kept to a minimum.

What can I expect from my treatment?

Treatment usually takes around 30 minutes. Results can take a few weeks to appear, depending on the concern being treated.

Is there any downtime?

For joint treatments, we advise you to rest the injected site(s) following the procedure, and to avoid touching the skin. However, PRP for other concerns has little downtime and you should be able to carry on with your everyday activities as normal.

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels

Another top-5 treatment, chemical peels can be used to resurface and rejuvenate skin through ‘peeling’ away the superficial layers to uncover the younger skin beneath. At NU-U Clinics, we use the ZO® Skin Health range, which can be tailored to you, your skin type and your individual concern(s).

Treatments available

  • ZO® Skin Health 3-Step Peel – involves using a peel solution, retinol crème and calming crème. Brightens and refines skin’s texture and appearance, improving acne scarring and signs of ageing and sun damage.
  • ZO® Skin Health Ossential Stimulator Peel – encourages cell renewal, while sweeping away dead skin cells. Contains salicylic acid, thought to have exfoliating and antibacterial properties.

FAQs

FAQ

Does the treatment hurt?

Part of the 3-Step Peel includes a calming crème, which gives relief from irritation and redness, while helping improve moisture levels in the skin. The Ossential Stimulator Peel contains non-irritating and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Whichever treatment you choose, you may experience a tingling sensation during the procedure.

What can I expect from my treatment?

Skin will improve instantly and over time. Treatment for the 3-Step Peel can be repeated every 3-4 weeks and it’s recommended to have at least 2-3 peels per year to ensure your results are maintained.

Is there any downtime?

With both peels, there’s little downtime – though it’s important to protect your skin from the sun as it may be sensitive following treatment.

PDO

PDO

For skin that’s starting to sag, PDO (Polydioxanone) can help firm and tighten tissues, as well as soften the appearance of lines, for a refreshed appearance. We have two types of thread treatments. The “non-surgical facelift” uses threads to lift sagging areas back in to place and the “rejuvenation threads” are placed under the skin to produce collagen and give the skin a smoother and more even texture.

FAQs

FAQ

Does the treatment hurt?

For the non-surgical facelift we give anaesthetic injections and cream for prior to the procedure. For the rejuvenation threads we use anaesthetic cream.

What can I expect from my treatment?

Your results will take time to appear, as the skin’s response is gradual. However, you can expect the effects of the treatment to last around a year. Treatment also involves a review after 3 months, where we can check your results and make additional recommendations, if required.

With the non-surgical facelift this produces instant results with some puffiness, redness and soreness for a few days.

Is there any downtime?

Unlike a surgical facelift, there is little downtime and many clients are able to return to work after the procedure. Some soreness, redness and swelling is expected and any pain you may experience can usually be managed with over-the-counter medication.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy

A treatment for skin lesions such as warts, verrucas, skin tags and keratoses, the process involves using a liquid nitrogen spray to ‘freeze off’ lesions. These then drop off naturally within 2-3 weeks.

FAQs

FAQ

Does the treatment hurt?

A short stinging sensation might be felt, but no cutting or injecting is needed at the site, which means a faster healing time with only a very low risk of scarring.

What can I expect from my treatment?

Once treated, it’s unlikely the lesions will reappear. However, it is possible to repeat the treatment again 4 weeks later, if needed.  The procedure can be carried out almost anywhere on the body.

Is there any downtime?

Skin may feel a little red or sore afterwards but no downtime is expected.
